The saying, ‘a healthy body houses a healthy mind’, is true indeed. PMU community eagerly participated in the recently concluded “Have Fun and Get Fit Wellness Event. The aim of the initiative, coordinated by the campus primary health care and counseling center, was to not only sensitize faculty, staff and students about the importance of good lifestyle choices, but also to promote the necessity of regular health screenings.

Various health and wellbeing matters were discussed.  Information from several service providers within the health care system contributed towards the success of the event. Basic first aid applications, blood sugar, blood pressure, body mass index and O2 saturation monitoring indicated the booth to visit. The Carlton Nutrition’s center provided healthy foods along with the Student Affairs Healthy Heart fruit shakes corner. The nutritionist from Carlton nutrition center provided diet plans for people who are in very obese, obese, overweight and underweight BMI categories. The majority of faculty who participated stated that it is important for their students to familiarize themselves about their status and to pro-actively seek healthier lifestyle choices.

The PMU Student Affairs Campus life team also organized a fitness work-out competition which included the longest push-ups and balancing with heavy weight on both hands etc. Everyone enjoyed participating in the experience and aimed for health and wellness prizes. The event ended with 2-miles (3, 2 km) run around the campus with the slogans “Feel the Beat of Summer Heat and Feel Free from Cigarette Heat! Are you up for it? The runners are looking forward for another campus run event in the semesters to come.

The wellness event was a huge success with loads of fun. Many thanks to all the wonderful folks who turned out, and to the Student Affairs Team for conducting such a holistic event. Indeed, all attendees gave positive feedback of the event and the desire for holistic events such as the wellness day to be arranged every semester in order for students to benefit from their studies.
